SANCTIFIED SPIRIT by PASTOR CHARLES O. FAMODIMU


“But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the spirit and belief of the truth” 2 These 2vs13.
For everything we do in life there is an underlying factor that determines the outcome of the whole matter. Mohammed Ali had a way of building defeat in his opponent by speaking defeat into their ears. So also the underlying factors in our lives are speaking the outcome of the event is determined by this factor. It is about the spirit in you. Are you a carrier of a sanctified spirit or a carrier of a polluted spirit? There can be no fulfillment of destiny unless you carry a sanctified spirit, that is; your spirit has been sanctified. A person with a polluted spirit experiences setback and delay because such a person when such a person climbs to a higher level of life he/she fails or messes up and such becomes worse than his/her formal state in life. This is a major reason for marital failures. It affects parenting and causes generational curses as the parents would have incurred curses with their unsanctified or polluted spirit which is then transferred to their children.
WHAT IS THE SPIRIT OF MAN?
For this teaching we would limit the explanation of spirit to the values and beliefs, traits and influences that are predominant in character. Many things influence our spirit man such as our utterances, imaginations, our thoughts (Prov 23:7) and your spirit in turn shapes your views and reactions to life around you.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR A SPIRIT TO BE POLLUTED?
An unsanctified spirit is a polluted spirit and it means you still have the flesh at work in you rather than the spirit of God. It means you are still in control of your life rather than allowing the spirit of God to dominate your own spirit. Romans 8:14.
It is spirit that is in you whose fruit you will bear. If the spirit of God is in you, you will bear the fruit of the spirit but if you have the spirit of the world you will bear demonic fruits. Gal 5:18-23. The hatred you still have in your heart is a fruit of that demon that has polluted your heart. The anger you yet display after so much counseling, is a result of the pollution in your spirit. This message is not given to condemn you but to create awareness so that you will know how to go with God and settle your spiritual life with Him by surrendering totally because without surrendering totally to Him, His work will be limited in us. It is not about “God bless me” but about “God transform my heart”, “Purge my spirit”, “Create in me a right spirit”, and taking up your cross daily. Luke 9:23. That is the meaning of seeking the righteousness of the kingdom of God. Matt 6:33
A proud wife will find it difficult to stay long in a marriage. Prov 14:1,3. There are ancestral character traits like the anger of Moses (remember Levi in Gen 34:25, 49:5-7) that needs to be purged out of your spirit. When you are arrogant to people, your leader or pastor by showing that you know it all you are been arrogant to God. How then can God give you new instructions?
